I had a great time last night even though I was (too) busy taking photos. I hadn't realized I wasn't the only person photographing for Locus or I would have enjoyed myself more, taking pictures less. Oh well. I barely drank as I couldn't carry purse and glass plus shoot camera simultaneously. I'm pretty good at one hand shooting but not that good. I'll upload the photos later. You can be the judge whether they were worth my sobriety.

Sorry if I didn't say hello to someone or didn't have time to talk in depth. There were a few people I really needed to speak to and did. And glad I did. Some good (not MAJOR) news possibly for next year. I'll follow up when/if it happens.

It was good seeing you there, Ellen, even if only briefly. You did seem to be constantly on the move.

Hi Sean,
I realize that you were one of the people I didn't even get a chance to say hi to!! Sorry.

Not to worry. At least we are locals, and have a greater chance of running into each other elsewhere. I missed a few out-of-towners with whom I'd wanted to catch up. It's impossible to bat 1,000 at that event. Maybe if they gave us three more hours. :)

I guess Philcon must have been last weekend...

Kinda miss all that east coast excitement, Philcon was the next convention I started going to after attending a Pghlange or two. In later years I sold Charlie many photos from that SFWA Fall Party scene... glad to see the scene hasn't died just yet! Charles Platt used to throw a great bash!

Yup, it was and I gather it wasn't too hot.

I don't recall any parties thrown by Charles Platt. I remember him being at some but not throwing any... weird.

Charles ran the SFWA fall reception for a number of years, like, maybe, 1980 - 1986? Something like that. He'd have a keg of beer and a band, maybe, renting an art studio space or some such. My memory, growing dim, is that the affair was taken over by a younger crowd of women editor types, and their first bash featured *gasp* wine instead of beer. Steven King was not amused. He went downstairs to a deli and came back with a whole bunch of 6 packs, which he'd share if you hung out in the corner with him and David Hartwell.

I guess I've totally blanked that out and as much as possible of those years with anything related to Charles, who at the WFC in New Haven got drunk and spritzed his beer at me in the early 80s. I do remember parties in lofts (one that Sheckley held in the early 80s where Harlan attended,) but I don't think they had anything to do with SFWA).
