One of my favorite crime authors has died. If you haven't read The Last Good Kiss, run out and do so.
Washington Post obituary of James Crumley

That was one of the first crime books I ever read. After Agatha I guess. I really liked the poem that title came from too...so long Mr. Crumley.

James Crumley RIP

I was really sorry to hear this, though I'd known he was ill for some time. He was one of the major reasons I got into the creative writing program at Colorado State back in '74. Unfortunately I never got to study with him--after he accepted me into the fiction program he left the university, but we did run into each other a few times over the years.

Re: James Crumley RIP

I hadn't known he was ill. There are writers/actors I've always hoped to meet and then I realize (particularly with actors) that this would be a very bad thing and that I should just be happy with whatever it is about them I like onscreen :-).
Of course, I have met many many writers--but some of the BIG ones I feel shy with--even Joyce Carol Oates, who I've met several times now (even for a meal).
