I'm in the airport where there is free wifi that works like a dream (unlike the hotel lobby and mezzanine, where I was unable to stay connected (ever) to the hotel wireless had to use a Linksys connection instead (that worked fine). Yesterday, I was on a very good panel about editing--You think you can be an editor? We actually talked about what editors do for a change, which was nice.
I was then interviewed by Allison Stein, who did a great job.
After the closing ceremonies, Parris and I grabbed a cab to the closest Casino and played the very cheap slots for a couple of hours. I think I lost about $35 and she won $115. Then took a cab to teh Savoy Grill, a traditional steak house that was Heinlein's favorite. We met with several con people and a guest or two and had a marvelous time. The steak was fabulous. Apparently, the hotel and steakhouse have been sold to someone who plans to restore and reopen in a year or so. The inside of the steakhouse is beautiful--stained glass windows and dark wood. But the exterior needs work--haven't seen the inside of hotel but apparently the owner hopes to make it into a "boutique" hotel. Some of the waiters at the Steakhouse have been there for 40 years. I wonder what they'll do.
After returning to the Hyatt I attended the dead dog party for a little while but knew I had to get to bed fairly early because of my 9:50 am flight home.
I think I already mentioned how fantastic Arthur Bryant's ribs were. I share some of Chris McKitterick's and gave him more than half my burnt ends, which were not burnt enough--no crunch. But the dry ribs with the hot and sweet sauce were heavenly.
Everyone at the con was lovely --a very hospitable, friendly place.
But as usual, I'm glad to be going home.
