Annoyed...because I'm still awaiting UPS which yet again screwed up my package pickup...7:08 and watching the clock....

But OTOH, I feel like I've been getting things done. I'm zipping through the 2007 run of Fangoria, grand daddy of gruesome special effect imagery in movie magazines. I skim the photos, see if I've missed any good movies or DVDs coming out, read the book reviews, and add the nonfiction ones to my summary of the year.

Next up will be Rue Morgue, which seems to be trying to compete with Fango in the gore dept., and finally Video Watchdog, which is a joy--full of movie information and trivia.

I'm beginning to see the piles of books diminish --and will even soon be able to move the incoming 2008 material into my bedroom where I keep one carton and many piles of books/mags before they overflow into other rooms.

Follow-up --the UPS guy just came 7:21--nice guy--he was here another time when there was a screw up--I think no one showed up till 9pm!!! It's not his fault--he's not even my regular UPS guy so I can't yell at him--lucky man.

Poor you... and lucky UPS.

Good luck with the endeavor! (Alas, I have nothing witty to say.)

My room being a mess as it is, what happens with the material from the previous years? Is it stored in a basement somewhere or discarded (after it's been cherry-picked of course)?

All the fiction/poetry magazines go to someone who indexes them (he pays postage). Nonfiction mags get put at the foot of the stairs in my building for anyone to take.

Books I don't want get given away for bookstore credit or otherwise discarded.

Is this the same UPS pick-up you were waiting for when I was there!? How badly did they screw up?

I think they actually came by 7pm that time....

It was the time before that..I try to get a carton ready about every two weeks if I can.
