Jeff Ford is GOH and I'm Editor GOH at Capclave this October. The convention takes place at the Hilton Washington DC/Rockville in Rockville, MD. The only other time I've attended was when Howard Waldrop was GOH and although the convention was smallish, I had a wonderful time. I'm very much looking forward to sharing the spotlight with Jeff. Maybe we'll have some kind of discussion about working together--hmmm. I need to suggest that to the program committee.

According to the website, some of the attendees will be Scott Edelman, David Hartwell, Jim Freund, Michael Capobianco, Brenda Clough,Michael Swanwick, Michael Dirda, Andy Duncan, and Dennis Danvers.

If anyone's in the neighborhood, come on by.

I have no way to get out there, but feel free to say hello to Scott Edelman for me. We're getting quite the Inspector Clouseau/Cato dynamic going in our old age.

I wish I could get to CapClave some year. It always sounds like a great convention, with heavy emphasis on good writing and interesting politics.

Have a good time.

Thanks. I remember something about single malts the last time I was there--don't remember if the hotel bar had them or something brought them along...different hotel though this time.

We're a picky lot of single malt drinkers and generally bring our own -- lots and lots of different things to taste/savor. My recollection from last year's single malt party is that there were probably 20+ different bottles around at one point or another during the evening.

It's both a great chance to introduce others to a favorite bottling -- as I did at Readercon with the Glenrothes I was pushing at folks -- and to taste some things that you've never had before.

If you've got a particularly favorite style of single malt, please do let us know. We aim to please!

Oh yum! I love the Islay kind of peaty ones the best but will never turn any down. Eileen Gunn and I traveled through Scotland after WorldCon in Glasgow and sampled the little unfamiliar bottles as we went. We didn't find anything that memorable but never finished sampling them all... Bring em ON!

With the con less than an hour from my house, I think it would be a crime for me to miss it. Now I just have to decide if I should get a hotel room and stay the weekend, or make the hour drive home each night after kibbitzing in the bar with the various and sundry folks that go...

Well, if you stay, then you don't have to worry about getting home after drinking whatever lovely single malt is around ;-)

I haven't been in this hotel and I don't know if you normally go to cons or not, but in general, it's nice to stay overnight because thigns sometimes last really really late in the morning.

I've been to Shore Leave the past four years and regularly close the bar at 2 am with my fellow writers. I'm really happy when I have a hotel room in the same hotel as the con during those times...

Oh, you'll be fine at Capclave, then, but I do recommend a room. Now, at Minicon, the music parties usually break up about 5am.

I will be there since it's just around the corner from my house. It will be my 3rd convention ever and my first as a published author. My main reason for going is to meet you and Scott Edelman in person so I look forward to seeing you there!

Jamie,
It'll be nice to meet you. Make sure you introduce yourself to us!

I don't think I've seen him outside of ICFA. He is most definitely one of the best readers I've ever seen. Anytime a newcomer to ICFA asks me what/who they should see, his readings are always on the list.

He's definitely coming. We talked about it via email a couple of days ago.

Yep, both Jim & I will be there (and are definitely looking forward to the single malts). We've got our hotel room starting on Thursday; what we're trying to do is come a day earlier so we can "do" Washington DC on Thursday -- however, it appears that the con hotel is totally full on Oct. 10th. So we're trying to figure out what to do....

That's great! I saw both your names. I'm coming Friday and leaving Monday...maybe you two can stay a day later too and we can explore DC.

Capclave specializes in short stories, although they cover novels, movies, TV, etc. I'm not going this year, I hit the Medicare Plan D donut hole last month so I'll be tight the rest of the year.

As Jeff pointed out to me, we're already doing interviews with each other so I suspect that'll already cover working together.
