It's one of my favorite holidays because I (perhaps in the minority among friends with more sophisticated palates) LOVE turkey and all the trimmings. Although my favorite stuffing using chestnuts, sausage and stuff like that rather than a lot of bread-like substances. I'm going over to my friend Claire's (great cook) for the big meal. She's teaching her niece to roast a turkey. Someone else is bringing dessert and I'm bringing wine and cheese.

Things I'm thankful for:

the whole family

Dinah
and

Bella

friends who I love
work that I love
Good health which I cherish
The opportunities to travel all over the world
An apartment rental that is cozy and homey and relatively reasonably priced in an expensive city
New York which I love

On the whole a very good life.

I guess my palate isn't too sophisticated, because I LOVE Thanksgiving and particularly stuffing. Ours has sausage, raisins, apples, and walnuts. MMM.

Happy T-Day!

I love turkey, too, especially the cranberry sauce which must always be made from scratch. Yum! I often roast the potatoes all afternoon in the oven while the turkey cooks. I wrap them in aluminum foil packets with carrots and onions and spices and pull them out as needed. Gravy is a very important part of the equation as well.

Okay, I've now made myself hungry and it's not even Thanksgiving here! Enjoy the day. :)

Just got back and no potatoes but plenty of other great food. Delicious turkey and gravy and stuffing plus home made cranberry sauce, collards, salad, lots of wine, and a home made pumpkin-pecan pie that wasn't too sweet.

Happy Thanksgiving! I like potatoes cooked for a long time as well. Yummmm.

As mentioned, no potatoes this time. We also had some excellent cheese and Syd's homemade salami with bread for appetizers.

Yum! I found an incredible cheese shop in Washington. The kids hated it because of the high smell, but I was in heaven. They had little signs on all the cheeses, with a picture of a cow, sheep or goat so you'd know the source...

Best kind of shop. Did you get to Murray's here in NYC? It's very good (I don't recall if I took you there).

No, didn't see that one. There are too many good food experiences to be had!

One of these days, I'm going to have to fix up a tandoori turkey for you and Pat, and just sit back to watch the expressions on your faces. There's something to be said about a turkey so moist yet grease-free that you can take a chunk of cold white meat, squeeze it, and watch the juice run down your arm.

From: [identity profile] mjlayman.livejournal.com

Oh, I did that this year. Not tandoori, but squeezable juice from white meat. I microwaved a turkey breast and it turned out very flavorful and moist. But Spirit wouldn't eat any (or of the drumsticks I microwaved last night) and the vet says she needs more protein, so I think next year I'll go back to the Marie Callender turkey dinner. If Spirit won't eat cold cuts, I'll get a script for high-protein cat food.

Yummy. That sounds excellent! I'm not tied to turkey only on Thanksgivings you know ;-)

That's good to know, because you're automatically invited to my next birthday party. Nothing says "an end to Texas summer" like fresh-smoked tandoori turkey out on the lawn after dark.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Minority? I LOVE turkey and stuffing!

Thank you all everyone and I hope you've had as delicious a Thanksgiving as I have. I got a few leftovers, too.

Someone else is brining dessert

I know about brining turkey, but dessert...?

*departs, on endless fruitless search to find someone who might be thankful for a pedant...*

See now, most people woulda just flung turkey-bones at my head, but you're always safe with an editor...

Happy Friday, by the way - are you shopping?

I went over to Best Buy to look at the Asus eeepc but they don't have them yet. I may try J&R later--if I like the feel of the keyboard and can see the screen well enough to use for traveling, I'll buy one.

From: [identity profile] desperance.livejournal.com

Mm, I wanna see 'em - if only to assure myself that my ten-year-old EasyMate is still superior to these newfangled things. Charlie Stross was sounding quite excited by his Asus last week...

From: [identity profile] ellen-datlow.livejournal.com

Well lucky I called J&R because they don't have it on display which means I'm not buying one until someone does...

So I went up to RSC to look at the thing and the salesman was awful. Told me that the Linex os would make it impossible to transfer word files back and forth (which my computer expert friend later told me is bullshit). But I decided against it anyway because the keyboard it really too small for me to use it without lots of typos. The screen I could probably live with. On the way out of the store, I saw the smallest Lenovo (formerly IBM) which is obviously an upgrade of my IBM 240x which I've loved for its lightweight but is sorely out of date. So...I went home and called the wonderful/helpful Jim Freund and Barbara Krasnoff and asked what they thought. We all checked the Lenovo site and the machine was on sale until Sunday. After checking the x61 and x61S I decided on the latter, which is several ounces lighter than the X61. It should be 2.73 pounds with the 4 cell standard battery. I've opted for more memory and a more power on the hard drive and Vista Biz, apparently much better than Vista home, which everyone says sucks. I should get the new machine in about 3 weeks or less. Whoopie!!!!
