My flight to Seattle was uneventful but I got in 45 minutes late because of very strong headwinds. Leslie and I arrived home to her house where Charles de Lint and a bunch of nice people playing music.

Next morning, Marc Laidlaw picked me up, we picked up his wife Geraldine and went off to Snohomish which has a ton of antique malls. We only had time for about three, and I picked up a strange little book called LITTLE DEGCHIE HEAD about a girl who burns her head off in a fire, the servant replaces it with a "degchie"--which seems to be a kind of pot, and no one notices. Then Father Christmas comes, feels sorry for her and gives her a beautiful new doll head that she glues on. And she lives happily ever after but never goes near a fire again. The end...

Dinner that evening at a Mexican place and some more hanging out at Leslie's.
Monday morning I took the amtrak bus to Vancouver where the Rodens picked me up and we drove four hours to their home in Ashcroft, where we stayed overnight.

After driving all day from Ashcroft, BC in a two car caravan, we're settled in at Bear Lodge, a two story log cabin at Mount 7 Lodges in Golden, at the edge of BC. It's cozy. I've got a pull out sofa bed on the first floor in the living room, with a bathroom all to myself (at least till tomorrow morning)and upstairs are three nice sized bedrooms with the Rodens, the Hacocks, plus Tim (son of Barbara and Christopher) and our friend Jason.

There's a hot tub on the back porch that I am not using. There's a lovely gas stove (that looks like real fire) in "my" room.
And voila! Free wireless.
The weather's been unseasonably warm during the day (in the sun) for the area--we're in the middle of the Rockies now and their tops are covered in snow.

I've taken some photos but am happy with very few of them. Most will be deleted.

Tomorrow on to Lake Louise, possibly Banff, and then Calgary.

You lucky dog! Don't go having too much fun at WFC without me.

On that subject, Scott, you don't have any allergies to chloroform, do you? Calgary can fill in for Portmeirion in a pinch, you know.

No, I don't—but I do get a rash from roofies, so be careful!

Ooh, many things! I've got a book out from TOR next year and am busily writing the sequel. I was going to go to WFC, but K's dad passed away a couple months ago, and we decided that making one more trip to Alberta this year would be too much. So instead we're headed your way for the December holiday season--planning to tourist ourselves silly and go to the Metropolitan Opera.

Ooh right--I knew about the book. Congrats.

Email me about getting together if you're coming to town when I'm in town. I'll be visiting Liz Hand some time in December.

Have fun in Banff. If you're feeling particularly brave, head out a little further past Lake Louise to Yoho National Park to see the Burgess Shale. (Actually walking up to the Shale is an all-day event, but you can view it from telescopes.) Considering that "Yoho" was the local First Nations word for "WOW", it's particularly appropriate.

It's actually a bit of a shame that I can't get up there: I bailed out on World Fantasy when I discovered that Scott Edelman and Cat Sparks weren't going to be in Calgary for it. You see, I had plans to kidnap several of you and take you out to Drumheller to see the Royal Tyrrell Museum. Next time, then?

I soooo want to get to the Tyrrell museum to see the dinosaurs, but don't have the time. Ellen Klages is going though this morning--it's 1 /2 hours away. Yoho National Park sounds cool, too.

Sorry you're not getting here.

So am I, because I love that entire area. Hey, at least I still have the plants at home to take care of me, right?
