...it's not the strolling, mind you. It's the getting up EARLY at a convention. Woe is me...anyone come along with me...in lovely Denver.

Strolling With The Stars
Stu Segal

To encourage a healthier, more active environment at Denvention 3 we are scheduling a 9AM walk every morning. We'll leave from under the Big Blue Bear at the Colorado Convention Center, and we'll stroll for a leisurely mile through downtown Denver. Each day's walk will be led by a Famous AuthorTM, Artist, Editor or Scientist who will not only lead the walk but will interact with the participants. Join luminaries like Frank Wu, David Brin, Jay Lake, Ellen Datlow, John Picacio, Lou Anders, Paul Cornell, Scott Edelman, Mary Robinette Kowal and Stephen H. Segal for a gentle, friendly stroll to get the day started on an upbeat note.

Now that I would be happy to do --although I doubt I could tear myself away from the partying :-)

Am I going to have to come out there and rectify this? I'm only an 8-hour drive away, and I'm not afraid to bicycle out there if I have to do so. If you think I was scary back in 1999, just consider that I get mistaken for a pro wrestler at least once a week these days, and the grin has only managed to get more horrific since then.

Dead seriously, I'm thinking about doing something like this at Convergence 14 this August. The Czarina is one of the dealers at the show, and I'm going to have plenty of time on my hands when I'm not lugging heavy things. Sure, people laugh about the idea of having a goth convention in Tampa in August, but I also speak from experience when I tell them that getting out at night and seeing the critters that emerge to feed underneath the street lights is worth the glare during the day. I've been away from Tallahassee for six years, and I still expect to see green tree frogs and oak toads underneath the lights on my back porch every evening. If we're lucky, we might see iguanas, skinks, and maybe even snapping turtles if we're in a good location.
