Dave Truesdale has written an interesting column on the F&SF site discussing various original sf/f anthologies from 2007 analyzing the contents and opining that most Nebula nominators don't seem to read anthologies. This latter contention seems accurate to me.

As to his opinion on some of the anthos, I can't judge the sf ones as I haven't read them.

Interesting opinions on the others, even if I don't/can't agree with him that The Coyote Road is all over the place (as a negative)--to me and Terri that was of course the point: To demonstrate that the trickster tale takes many forms and occurs in many cultures--and yes, we do indeed feel that we fulfilled our intentions.

SFWA Nebula Apathy Slights Original Anthologies:
Or Why I Like the Hugos

It was an interesting post with an interesting writeup of the various anthologies, many of which I have. Original anthos would seem, imo, a most excellent source for Nebula nominations. An oversight to be corrected, perhaps. Certainly as an editor of same it gets you the best stories. And as a reader, I also profit.

I didn't really like what he said about Eclipse, and thought he basically proved that (a) the Nebs did overlook original anthos, and (b) that everything else is just personal opinion.

I'm reading "Coyote Road" right now. So far, I'm really enjoying it. All over the place? Well, that's sorta the point of a trickster tale, isn't it?

I can't speak for the awards process, but I do agree that 2007 was a great year for original anthos.
