Former student/friend and her husband brought me a lovely bottle of 12 year old Irish Whiskey called Redbreast--it is very smooth--it goes down way too easily. We drank some this afternoon then went over to the Chocolate Bar--there was room in the back area (where there is a round table and room for just about three people) so we could relax and drink our hot drinks (I had spicy hot chocolate) and desert like foods...It was almost too much chocolate for me. But it was lovely to catch up on news. I hope to see them while I'm in London next year.

And someone pointed this horrible horrible addictive damned game to me last night and I can't stop playing the stupid thing. I've hit 324 as my highest score:
penguin meets a yeti

Don't blame me if you have to be dragged away from the computer.

Mine's like 321 so far.

My guilty pleasure is Peggle.

Happy New Year!

Re: Way too addictive !

It doesn't always but that's how you get the best score. If you hit a fly it generally hits straight down--you need that bounce.

Ellen: I got a 320.2 and Jack scored a 321.4. Only thing is he took a 1/4 of the swings that I did. What's the farthest score you've heard tell of?

342 from someone on my fictionmags list--I find that hard to believe...

You're actually counting? Aighhhh!

After a twitch-inducing 30 minutes my high was 312.2

Are your yetis taking steroids?

I haven't been able to match that. Walter Jon Williams said he got 323.4--once.

Hmmm. Just broke 321. There's obviously a very small sweet spot. I have to say I'm amused by the ones that send the penguin nose in to the snow, even if it doesn't get the same distance.

Redbreast Irish Whiskey is the best ever. Dale Bailey introduced me to it, and now I don't want Jameson's anymore. I think I should punch him in the face.

Last year they brought me some terrific Bushmills. I've already gotten into Scotch single malts so it's nice to try Irish ones.

Sadly (fortunately?) my office blocks those game-type sites. I want to play, though!

Are you a whiskey connoisseur? I've liked whiskey when I've had it, but I seem to be one of those affected by it in the way my favorite comedian describes ("Whiskey makes you into two people - one goes up to total strangers and says, 'Come in, come in, have something, for God's sakes, have my bed!' and the other one goes up to people you've known all your life and says, 'Get the f*ck out of my house! And leave a tip!'") So I kind of try to avoid it in large amounts!

single malts not blended....so which one are you ? ;-)

You're lucky you can't play.

I may have to check it out at home, since it sounds so fun.

Well, the problem is, I've been both! Mostly the nice one who invites people in, but once or twice I've been nasty, when I'm never usually so! So I have to be careful.

Vodka, on the other hand, NEVER gives me these problems. :)

too much chocolate...?

I'm trying to imagine this....

Nope. Not succeeding.

We had some FANTASTIC Irish Whiskey Cheddar for our Xmas feast this year. I SO want more.

Re: this sounds right...

Looks like there are several places to buy it, but I wonder if one can get less than 5 pounds of it at a time :-)

ours...

was 1lb or less- it was a small cheese, entirely encased in black wax. There was a porter of the same brand/presentation so that's why I think this was it.

Come visit, we'll give you all the snow you want & whiskey cheddar to boot. ;-)
