The really surprising thing about the manhole covers is how new they look. The ones in NYC all look ancient. But if you're crazy enough to step into the street and look at them, they have fascinating inscriptions commemorating the Irish-American casting companies and the date of the doubtless unseemly municipal contract under which they were made.
The Barbie collection contains some ringers, I think. Some of the dolls are not authentic Barbie's. Some of the most outlandish ensembles are actually authentic. But other dolls look to me like they're "redressed". Outfitting Barbie in ho' clothes is one of the main activities of thousands of middle aged males who, I believe, outnumber little girls as the main collectors of the dolls. What gets done to Barbie's boyfriend Ken I'll leave to your imagination. And of G.I. Joe I will not even speak.
