I had a wonderful time evidenced by these photos. I took a bus to Kingston, and my friend John and another old friend (mostly of his) who I hadn't seen in years were there to pick me up. We had a very good dinner at a Japanese restaurant then went to a two person play at a local theater. Then John and I drove back to New Kingston (another hour away). I didn't see any of the property but the house was very nice. Met the two cats although only one is comfortable enough with strangers to let me pet him. Boots (pix of him below).
I'd forgotten my alarm clock so John had to wake me in the morning. After showing me around his gorgeous property (see photos)--and crossing a slatted bridge (he had to help me as I was wearing my cowboy boots and suddenly halfway across, camera in hand, I realized if I lost my balance I couldn't fall through)and we checked out his meadow, his ponds--well not all because it was too wet and muddy and he wasn't wearing boots, saw the beaver lodge, the whole time Boots following us around like a dog.
We went out for a terrific breakfast down the way (I forget what town it was in) and then shopped to prepare for the impromptu party John decided to organize for my first visit to his place. While John took the cooked chickens home, I shopped down the main street and found the perfect pottery bowl I've been needing to replace a chipped one. I would have bought more but they didn't take credit cards.
He invited a few of his neighbors he didn't know very well and some very old friends of ours--there is a group of people who moved from the city up to Saugerties, near Woodstock, New Kingston, et al and everyone seems to be about an hour away from everyone else. It was small group of about 11 people and it was a lot of fun. The weather gods blessed us and so all afternoon and evening we sat out on the deck. It wasn't until after dark when it got cooler and we went inside that it started pouring rain.
Our friend Donni (who came from yet another direction-Port Jervis) stayed over and the three of us watched The Thief of Baghdad which John informed us was an Errol Flynn movie. When no EF appeared after ten minutes I looked a the netflix sleeve and said nope-no EF here. Sabu and Conrad Veidt. It was fun (if too long). Next morning, John and Donni looked up Sabu, who was young a so cute in the movie. He was 16 when it was made. He married, and went into biz with a sibling and died young, at 39 of a heart attack.
Next day I wasn't awakened until 11 (!)--John slept in too. Donni as per her usual was up hours earlier and was busy with her second life down in office where she was sleeping. She may have taken a walk too. Anyway, we three went to breakfast, same place as yesterday, sitting outside on the deck where you can see the Delaware River.
Donni split for home. John drove me to Kingston and I just made the 2:30 bus home. I plan to go up again for the Saugerties studio artists tour in August.
