Yes. To you it might be boring, but hey, it's my life, and until it completely heals, it's a daily part of that life (I truly won't be insulted if you skip my posts on it).

To update everyone still reading, I've been taking off the big Band-Aid every morning before showering (the water does not do any harm, and it doesn't even sting --although, of course, I'm careful not to wash the area). Then I dry off around the wound, put some of the medicated gel into it and put on a new Band-Aid.

I'd been doing this almost a week, beginning last Tuesday morning and for the first 5 days saw no difference in the size of the wound. But today I did--it definitely looked smaller to me. Just got back from the surgeon and indeed, it is smaller. New photo with measuring tool will be posted on flickr shortly (only for those who choose to see the set). He's very pleased. Needless to say, so am I. I'll see him again next Monday, leave for Florida the 11th and we both hope that it just might be closed up by the time I return to see him the 23rd.

Good. Glad to hear the infection is gone. This thing is taking forever to close up.

That's how it works. It DOES take a long time. I got the impression that my doc is impressed that it's closing up as quickly as it is.

If you're a non-smoker, that'll help. Peripheral circulation in the lower leg is notoriously dodgy, but having some blood supply means the thing will heal.

(My mum turns 80 in a month or so and has been plagued by leg ulcers for the past 18 months. The arterial bypass she had two months ago seems to have helped, but it's much the same situation wrt. healing: hurry up and wait for the thing to start filling in. Meanwhile, it sucks.)

Non-smoker. And as I walk a lot, it's not as if the area is not getting exercise. Although raising my leg during the day hasn't been possible, I have been keeping it slightly raised every night and will do till it's totally healed. It's strangely fascinating seeing how the body heals itself. I've never had this kind of wound before so yes...the filling in is fascinating to me.

"Peripheral circulation in the lower leg is notoriously dodgy"

Hah! In my instance I had to wait until the wound had healed before they'd do the stenting to improve the circulation in the leg . . . This may be another reason why E's is healing quicker than mine did.

Well yeah...if there's lousy circ to begin with that would impede healing...you poor thing.

Glad to hear you're healing up. Having broken my leg back in 2007 I can sympathize. I know it's not the same thing but an ailing pin of any sort just plain sucks.

Mine might have been scary, initially, but I think a broken leg would be much more awful in the long run.;-)

Glad to hear it's healing better.

And it's not boring but then again, I'm a sadist (and you're a horror editor after all... who knows what microscopic life your wounds give birth to).

The one thing I do NOT want to think about is "microscopic life your wounds"--that's what got me into this fix in the first place :-)

I just posted the new photo. I asked Dr. P if he thought it was weird that I was posting photos. He kind of mumbled. I gave him a copy of Poe but told him I wouldn't quiz him on it and he doesn't have to read it if he chooses not to.

I have to send the link to your email address. If you don't want to post it here, just send it to me at datow at yahoo dot com.

I hope this heals up as quickly as possible. I read Pat's posts on your London trip with a great deal of sympathy and some horror - what a rotten thing to happen abroad. Also hospitals here can be great....or not.

Glad to hear it's healing up so quickly! (And jealous: the cavity in my own leg took a lot longer than this . . .)

From: [identity profile] realthog.livejournal.com

Received. Today Flickr, tomorrow Playboy, eh?

The wound looks about the same diameter and depth as the one I had, perhaps 15% or 20% smaller if at all. Aside from that, and aside from the obvious fact that they're on different parts of the leg, they could be twins. Yours seems definitely to be clearing up faster than mine did . . . which may be because of the different area of leg: mine's just above the knee, so the relevant flesh gets flexed the whole time.

The most dramatic change was from the 17th to the 23rd...That's when I could really see the difference in size. They're totally out of order in my flickr set plus I didn't make sure they were taken at the same angles, etc. so it's hard to discern when/how it's been changing. (except by looking at the two with the doctor's ruler next to it)

Glad you are getting better. Here's hoping the wound begins to shrink quickly and then heals completely.

Eek, what happened to your leg?? I've been off LJ for a while, and clearly missed something. I looked through your entries, but couldn't spot the initial wounding. What happened??
