I'm in the home stretch of Lovecraft Unbound--setting the order, gathering up the last bios, and finishing the intro...Tomorrow I'm mailing out copies of the author contracts to my editor plus two reprints that I couldn't get electronic files of: the Michael Chabon and Joyce Carol Oates.

Made reservations for the Stoker Award weekend and Anticipation in Montreal via frequent flyer mileage--yayyyy... And bought my Stoker weekend ticket.

Picked up my taxes (owed some ugh) and will get some back (not enough to make up what I owe).

Attended the birthday party of a friend's lovely lady at a bar for a couple of hours then came home and found this lovely post by Matt Staggs summing up some recent happenings at
Enter the Octopus .

I remember watching episodes of The Naked City (hear my joints creak?).

That's a cute pic of you.

Last year I was planning on making the Stoker convention in L.A. this June, but it's not looking likely, now. Bummer.

Or maybe your parents let you stay up later than mine did ;-)

thanks.

I almost didn't think I'd make it--airfares have been too high and about a month ago when I checked, I didn't think my frequent flyer mileage would do it...

If I were to go I'd drive. It takes about four and a half hours from here to L.A. I should look into the cost, see if I can swing it. But I can't stand Los Angeles in the summer. Yuck. Not that it's any better here.

Actually, in some ways, it is better here in the summertime.

It's too bad Paul Di Filippo and I already did our Weegee story ("Sleep is Where You Find It"). He's one of my heroes...my very first email address was weegee@well.com. - MarcL

I remember your Diane Arbus story--you really like those photogs :-)

I didn't know that.

From: [identity profile] ellen-datlow.livejournal.com

I've just realized that I missed the last five or so pages of the Chabon story--and I wasted a lot of paper at the photocopy center because the pages of YBFH are so jampacked with text that it's hard to fit the whole page on one sheet. I am not a happy camper. Gotta go back and do the rest (or redo--I'll bet I threw the last pages away by accident at the shop)

Yeah, it was in F&SF years ago, then collected in Paul's Little Doors. The alternate title came to me too late: "The Human Head Cakebox Murders." Back when I was doing photo stories...Weegee, the Arbus and Giordano Bruno stories you ran in Omni, Secret Encyclopedia of Photography...that was fun.

Un no, it was in OMNI --I published it-"The Diane Arbus Suicide Portfolio." ;-)

Heh, I meant the Weegee story was in F&SF. Of course you published the Arbus (and Bruno's Shadow)!

Good luck with Lovecraft Unbound.

And yay to Matt for the photos.

I wish I had that many frequent flier miles. I'm saving mine for next year's Worldcon, since I need to get two round-trip business class tickets to Australia! Won't be able to do that until September, though, since as I recall, you can only work 11 months in advance.

Yes, I'm saving up for that as well. I've got enough for one economy class now--perhaps by September I'll have enough for biz class.

I'm trying to make sure I enough for both me and Irene, so I'll need a lot of miles.

Ooh, WorldCon! I really, really want to go to Anticipation. Trying to figure out how to make that work. :)
