Thanks!

Wow, how absolutely lovely. Looks like a special effect out of Dr Who or something. Of course, the mid-westerner in me is thinking "Gee, I hope they're not experience drought conditions there, because the fire-risk has to be SERIOUS." ;-)

Don't worry, it's actually the tail-end of monsoon.
They are gorgeous.

That would be the most beautiful thing I can imagine seeing in my life. Seriously.

It's pretty damned amazing. I would love to have been there in person.

That is one of the things I loved about the years I spent living in Chiang Mai. Not just that they do that, but that they do it in the flight path of an international airport, just about 5 miles from the runway.

I found a site too that sells them:
http://www.flyingchineselanterns.com/index2.htm
which says they are biodegradable .... i bet they would be awesome if they were sent out over the lake here in Toronto.
wow.

The Husband and I are going to order some in the spring and either take them out to BC or have them ready for my niece's arrival next summer. She lives on a farm in northern BC. I'm trying to convince myself five would be enough - but I might get 20! We are trying out to be Best Uncle and Aunt ever. :D
this just might do the trick!
