This evening I and a bunch of friends attended Robert Lloyd Parry's marvelous performance of two M.R. James's stories: Oh, Whistle... if you're living in or New York City and are in town over the next few weeks I urge you to see it. The setting is intimate--a 30 person theater on the upper west side. You feel as if you're in James's living room on a wintry night. Highly recommended.

And...
Tim Lieder gave The Del Rey Book of SF& Fantasy a very nice review at The Pedestal

I'm going with Eugene, after seeing him at WFC I wouldn't miss it.

Unfortunately, what with one thing and another I'm not going to be able to get to this. I'm seething with jealousy!

I would love it...

but alas, I seem doomed to live in an area of flyover mentality.

Only vaguely related, but one of the biggest theatres in town recently went under. They have been the recipient of numerous arts grants over the years & huge community support. However, they were never successful in reducing a rather huge debt load & finally called it quits. Now they are saying that a large part of the problem was that there are TOO MANY SMALL theatres in town, & that this was adversely affecting the theatre-going public. Say WHAT??!!??

I wonder... would they bring him up here? That sounds marvelous, although it would be even better right before Christmas and in a library (wasn't it a library?), the way he told them originally.

I assume he performs when someone organizes appearance dates for him :-) If you have an idea of someone in your neck of the woods who would hire him to go there, he'd go, if he wasn't otherwise scheduled.
