Just got home from the theater and the streets all around Camden have been closed off because of a fire at Camden Lock. I was told I couldn't get through to the High street because the whole neighborhood was closed off for fear of some fuel in the Lock blowing up the whole place. After asking several police officers if I could please get to where I was staying, I found out that the back way to the Clutes via Inverness Street was open. Thank god it was. One cop initially said you'll have to get a hotel room we have no idea when the streets will open. Ha! Anyway...although the police tape was between the last restaurant on the block, blocking off the Clutes' flat, I called over a couple of police and asked if I could get to the door just beyond the tape. Luckily they said sure but don't come out again...

Judith welcomed me home (John's asleep)and said the firetrucks have been around since 7pm (It's almost 11pm now).
Relieved to be home with helicopters flying over.

My first thought was of the three of you. I'm so glad you're all okay. Stay safe!

Must have been scary moments for you - as I was reading your entry this morning it was being shown on the BBC news - glad you're ok

I knew that the Clutes and their flat were ok as Camden Lock is several blocks north. I was only concerned that I'd have no place to stay the night. J&J had checked with the local security to make sure that I could get to their flat and were told it would not be a problem. Unfortunately, initially I didn't encounter those policemen but others from outside the neighborhood who don't really have knowledge of where anything is.

The Fire still burns at camden for the poor traders

2 of the traders that I know, lost £80,000 stock and all the takings they would have accumulated over the many weeks.

They cant keep up with Mortgage payments and are on the way to losing their homes....theres a bit of tape (RED, not police tape) thats holding them back from their home too!

£700,000 in donations that are controlled by Camden Cancel and their friends - the Camden Market Holdings, and are being changed into a pay-back grant that they wont see for months yet!

Poor traders!

Re: sry

No problem --ramp (or rant away)--and you could always sign your post :-)
And I'm glad to hear any follow up news since there's nothing in the US papers --are the UK papers still covering the aftermath?

Re: sry

Thank you for that.

The papers don't cover it much now, even though the press are always hanging around there.

I have some pixs of the aftermath that I took when they let us in to see the damage.
If there was a way to post them here I would.

One of the pix shows the fire couldn't have started where they first thought it did.

I know its been sometime since it happend, but I still see the suffering traders daily, so its always fresh in my mind!

Thanx for letting me rant. If theres anything else you want to know, feel free to ask.

Thanx
Andy
