So I was merrily working away this morning when around 12:30 everything went dead (again) in my living room. Whoopie! I called the super and the landlord and left messages. And then went out to do my errands since there wasn't a heck of a lot else I could do. Home again around 2:30 and again called the super and left a message. This time he called right back and said he'd been there while I was gone (but didn't call first) and would be around again in half an hour. He was. He checked out the circuit breakers in the apt, took apart the light fixture in the ceiling, tightening everything and thinking/hoping each time that would fix it.It didn't. Went to the basement to try those circuit breakers and no luck. So...now he's pretty sure the circuit breaker in the apt needs to be replaced. Which he will do tomorrow morning while I'm gone (I nervously gave him a set of keys) and he's promised that he'll fix it before my house sitter comes over in the afternoon. He did a very good deed by hooking my whole power strip up to a socket that works in the bedroom with an extension cord so I've been able to work and see and listen to music since about 4:30. Yayyy!
I couldn't get the living room phone to work although the machine is on and finally, after much agonizing and checking wires realized duh! that the phone connection goes into the socket line that's dead...so once the electricity is back on the phone will work. (lucky I have an extension in my bedroom)...

So the saga continues. And I've packed after playing a lot with Bella who loves rolling over in my garment bag, forcing me to pet her. Trying to get some work done. My flight's around 11am and I have to get to leave early to get to Newark. Ick.
Off to visit the folks for their 60th anniversary party. Fifty people at a restaurant Sunday evening. Which is why I'm missing the mill & swill Monday night. I get back late Monday.

I'll be checking email but don't know if I'll be blogging at all.

Thanks. It almost doesn't bother me aside from the hole in my ceiling (where the light fixture was) and the long extension cord I'm afraid I'll trip over every time I get up off the couch :-)

For us power blackouts were once so common that we called them "brownouts". The smell of fuel and loud noise made the use of generators inconvenient (not to mention inexpensive). As long as you have a light to read!

We have brownouts in the US. They're partial blackouts.

This outage is in one line in my apt not system wide, not even building wide.

Oh, okay. I always thought brownouts was a Philippine thing since I never saw it used elsewhere.

Hope the super fixes everything sooner rather than later.

Over here it's usually caused by a temporary screw up of some sort but here's a definition from Wiki:
Brownout
where the voltage level is below the normal minimum level specified for the system. Systems supplied with three-phase electric power also suffer brownouts if one or more phases are absent, at reduced voltage, or incorrectly phased. Such malfunctions are particularly damaging to electric motors. Some brownouts, called voltage reductions, are made intentionally to prevent a full power outage.

Me too :-)Especially before I get home Monday.
