Over the weekend I watched the beautifully filmed, wonderfully acted but dead-in-the-water (wayyyy too long) adaptation of Somerset Maugham's The Painted Veil, with Edward Norton, Naomi Watts, Liev Schreiber, and Toby Jones.
And then, the awful Live Free or Die Hard aka Die Hard 4 which was all you'd expect it to be--but still, somewhat mindless fun. I didn't recognize Timothy Olyphant as the bad guy (even though I'd seen his name in the opening credits) until the closing credits. I kept wondering who the guy was thinking gee he looks a little familiar (actually a bit like Dwayne Hickman from Doby Gillis)...
Last night's film, Moon with Sam Rockwell, made up for the other two movies. It truly is wonderful. It's about an astronaut who is contracted for a three year stint with a mining company on the moon that provides all the power for Earth. His stint is just about up and he's going bugfuck during his last two weeks. Kevin Spacey is the voice of Qwerty, the on-board computer. Rent this one now--you won't regret it.
