Today was verrry quiet and almost empty. I found Dark Horse again to give them the book card (I wrote down the booth number so I could find them), met another person there and so we'll see if they can persuade the Lovecraft film festival to help pay my way out to Portland October 2-4th in conjunction with the release of Lovecraft Unbound to be released the 7th.
I wandered through the children's publishing booths and printing booths today just to see what was going on and lots of pads, pens, more pads, stickers, and Asian candies were thrust upon me. Everyone really wanted to get rid of the swag today because they did not want to pack and up and take any of the stuff back.
I also noticed/realized that Holtzbrinck didn't attend at all so no Tor, St Martin's, or Farrar Straus booths this year.
I found the layout very confusing overall. There's not much rhyme or reason for some rows and yet for others there is: eg. Spanish publishers were in one section. Publishers of only children's books were downstairs. Independent, small press, technical presses, University presses seemed spread out all over the place, as were writer organizations. What a mess. That's why it's difficult to find anything by just wandering.
I did have a very good time and today ran into Peter Glassman of Books of Wonder, who saw my Poe book on the table and wants to order it, even though it's an adult title--because he loves Poe. So that was a special last minute bonus.

Oh, that's funny! Well, that's a pretty pragmatic motivation. Their desire to avoid having to drag a bunch of stuff back means you won't have to buy certain office supplies for a while.
