I've been busy and nothing very interesting has been happening (just life) but as a break how about these vacation ideas:

The Genuine Crime and Punishment Experience
Outward Bound: Lord of the Flies
Death in Venice Walking Tour
Grow Your Own Flowers in the Attic!

Four vacation packages we'd like to take

Feel free to make up your own ;-)

Death in Venice Walking Tour

If you see any symbolic representations of Death walking around, run! And don't eat any fruit!

I read this really interesting article in the Oxford Companion to Thomas Mann about his works in English translation. As it turns out, the first translator of his works into English was a friend of the publisher and really didn't have that great of command of the German language, leading to some really sloppy and inaccurate translations. I realized after reading that article that my copy of Death in Venice was translated by her. There are new translations out that are apparently accurate, so I'd love t own one of these versions. I have a copy of the story in German, but my German isn't fluent enough to read it without a dictionary handy.

Many moons ago, the London Dungeon offered the "Jack the Ripper Experience". Presumably, female tourists would walk in and promptly have their vitals scooped out and thrown over their shoulder.

I've been on the Jack the Ripper tour led by my friend Judith Clute a couple of years ago when she was still doing them for London Walks. It was a great tour.
