Thank you!

I own almost the duplicate mask. A friend brought it back from Venice as a wedding gift for us. It's a handmade Carnival mask- she saw the artist sign it & everything. The icon is of another one, but it's the same idea & almost the same appearance.

Re: Thank you!

What is it made of, leather? plaster of Paris? I bought a few masks in Venice several years ago, but I never saw anything as splendid as that.

As far as I can tell...

it's a kind of papier-mache. Mine is more platinum than gold finish, but it's probably about the same size & certainly the same idea.

I'll see if I can't find a picture of it in my files.

Great interview Ellen. Especially the "cut-and-paste" part.

Ohmigod. I had to look up what you were referring to--you mean "cut and add" :-). Oh yeah. Poor Howard Waldrop. One of his stories had to be "rearranged" around a Kahlua ad you know the ads with the actual bottle shape in the middle of the page?--and the art dept kept changing the configuration on us.

I'd like to think of it as "cut and edit" but that process is where cut and paste got its etymology from.

Ah yes, layouting without the aid of a computer...

It is? I thought it was in newspaper work--they had to literally cut pieces and paste them into layouts...no?

Yup, that's how it works. Process was called stripping I think.

But your process sounds similar as well (since newspapers needed to edit the text as well during layout).
