You certainly won't hear me complain about the new column. Beating on bad books is easy (he said with a certain amount of self-loathing that will never go away), but right now the biggest concern isn't with going Kurosawa on the waves of utter garbage. The real danger is with readers being buried in the merely mediocre, and getting good recommendations on worthwhile books matters more now than at any other time I can remember.
