About to leave for a clinic in Whitechapel to have the dressings changed and the wound looked at. I DO think it's getting better--I won't go into gory detail) because the bandages were seeping blood last night (and not anything else)--which makes me think the blood blister broke...
Judith is taking me and will stay as long as she can and then John will pick me up.
The clinic opens at 9am and we're hoping there won't be a long wait.

And my signing/reading Poe event is at 2pm!! I will be there (barring problems with the leg).

Hope the diagnosis is positive.

Good luck with the Poe signing/reading!

Whitechapel...blood blisters...gory bandages...

Are you working on a Jack the Ripper anthology now?

-MarcL

From: [identity profile] inf-matrix.livejournal.com

I think Marc has a handle on this. A new anthology: "Bugs! Eros and Antibiotics." Or would that be a Dozois/Dann anthology?

Never mind. I'll start a story now. And I hope Marc Laidlaw will as well....

From: [identity profile] inf-matrix.livejournal.com

Also: "Hugs! Datlow and Antibiotics." Hope you're out of the hospital fast and recuperating comfortably.

Hugs, anyway....

"The Suppurating Leg" sounds like a story by L.P. Hartley or John Metcalfe. And no, Met-calf is not intentional. Is it a Hartley story that ends up with a shoe upside down on the floor, and then they discover a foot inside it, with the ankle running down through the boards?

Anyway, now I'm getting nervous, because you're not responding in spite of all this goading. Hope you're doing better.

From: (Anonymous)

I've tracked down the source of my confusion: Metcalfe's classic "The Smoking Leg." Why I confuse that with "The Travelling Grave" may have to do with the books resting next to each other on a shelf, or simply in a catalog, sometime in the past. Title-and-content osmosis occurred. Good thoughts for Ellen's leg continue in spite of my dismaying mental condition. - MarcL

Marc (and all) -- When Ellen went to the hospital on Saturday, the doctors decided to admit her to speed her recovery. Pat Cadigan reports that she is in good spirits and resting comfortably, but that she has no wireless access. (And how can she be comfortable with _that_?)

your health

Hi Ellen:

I hope you're receiving the best of care for your ailment. Though it was disappointing for me personally not to meet you at your Poe event here in London, it's beyond argument that your health comes first every time. There will always be another event, and you will always be there to attend, if you do the right thing now. Godspeed.

Best regards,
Mischa.

I'm truly sorry to hear about the latest turn of events with your leg. Sending you lots of healing thoughts. *hugs*

Thought I'd better repeat this message, as I buried it deep in comments:

When Ellen went to the hospital on Saturday, the doctors decided to admit her to speed her recovery. Pat Cadigan reports that she is in good spirits and resting comfortably, but that she has no wireless access. (And how can she be comfortable with _that_?)

So she missed her Poe event and is spending her vacation researching the advantages of socialized medicine. She'll catch up with good wishes left here when she gets home.

The Official Diagnosis:

Cellulitis.

According to the doctor, Ellen should be able to fly home on Wednesday as planned. However, it's likely that she will be in hospital until she goes home.

That is all, for now.

Being ill overseas is simply awful, but maybe just slightly less so for writers and editors because there is almost always someone local to look in on them. ***waves to everyone across the pond*** I hope by the time you get to read this, Ellen, you're feeling fit.

I hope you get better soon, Ellen!

Ellen's Surgery Postponed To Thursday, 5 February

Hi, guys--

Just FYI, for those who might not get over to my place: Ellen's surgery scheduled for today has been re-scheduled for tomorrow. She's fine--an emergency came in and all non-critical surgeries were postponed. She wanted me to make it clear that it wasn't because she was too ill.

The Empress is very keen to get better, get out, get home, and get back to normal.

:)

Heard how things are progressing via Roz, and adding my voice to the throng; get well soon. =)
