I couldn't decide whether to blog about this or not but since La Cadigan, who has took me to St Bart's twice has...I'll just cut and paste her report (she's very succinct):

"It was one of those stupid things. Three weeks ago, Ellen fell down some stairs. Not long afer she arrived here, a bruised area above her ankle, just below her shin, suddenly decided to swell up and turn pink. I insisted she go get it looked at, so it was off to the Minor Injuries Unit at St. Bart's. The nurses there decided she'd be OK with ice and elevation.

Ha.

Today we had to take her back and as it turns out, she has a rather inconvenient infection, must gobble two different antibiotics several times a day, can't drink, and must be carried everywhere on luxurious velvet pillows. Or by taxi.

Of course, she always had to be carried everywhere on luxurious velvet pillows but now it's mandatory as opposed to simply by her whim.:)"

So it's cut down on my running around--had to cancel a tour of Scotland Yard (although if the leg's better we may do it on Tuesday afternoon); had to toss out the idea of going to the theater tomorrow night, and forget Chinese New Year's Saturday--no parade for me.
In addition to the antibiotics I'm chomping down ibuprofin. I hope I hope that the antibiotics will start working and that there will be improvement tomorrow. Luckily, it's been localized--no temperature or (much) spreading. This sucks.

Well, along with not losing the leg or dying, let's hope it heals quickly and causes little further discomfort.

That REALLY sucks! *much healing energy flowing across big pond to you*

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Oh crap! Sorry, Ellen. At least you can sit around and read a lot, yes? :) As long as you don't have the zombie plague, all will be well.

Now that's a PITA! Your not suppose to get ill when traveling! Feel better soon!

Feel better and don't be guilty about resting.

So sorry to hear this! I do hope the antibiotics take care of it quickly and you can save some of your holiday.

Sorry to hear it. It was good to meet you yesterday, even if we didn't talk much (I was the large man with the beard who was with you in the restaurant after the BSFA meeting and then in the group that walked back to Victoria Station to catch the Tube).

So sorry to hear this has happened to you, Ellen. But it sounds as if you're in good, caring hands. Too bad about having to cancel the tour of Scotland Yard.

"can't drink"

This must be HELL.

As must all the rest of it. Do take care of yourself, kiddo.

Adding you to my list of people to think good thoughts for. Heal up and get better soon!

feel better, and try and take some acidophilus (sp?) the good stuff, that has to be refrigerated. That way the antiobiotic won't kill off all the good microbes in your body.

(Don't take it at the same time you take the antibiotics, btw)

Oh no! I hope the antibiotics work fast, don't screw with your innards too much, and allow you some relatively painless reading time while you're lounging on velvet pillows.

I hope the infection is ended very soon and that you recover quickly!

Oh, that stinks! I sure hope it gets better quickly. :(

Oh my. Sounds awful. (Except perhaps the luxurious pillows part.)

Hope you recover soon Ellen.

Well, if you can't drink, we'll all have to make the sacrifice and drink for you.
