I can't quote his whole review (much of which he assumes will be cut for space)but he has given me permission to quote the last few lines, which I quite like :-)

Overall, it's a fine collection. Though some contributions are weaker, there are no duds. As Poe nearly wrote: "Darkness and Decay and Ellen Datlow hold illimitable dominion over all."

We'll make it...

a tribute volume- all your best introductions, introduced with an original story incorporating all the themes of all the anthologies you've ever put together.

Nice. I quite like the darkness, decay and Datlow line. And now you've got a title for a new antho. :-)

Re: Darkness and Decay and Ellen Datlow...

I thought the same thing. Has a nice ring to it, where it seems right, just like Datlow's Inferno. :-)

While I'm still functional? Don't be in such a hurray! ;-) Sounds like quite a challenge for writers.

for your centennial. You should still be going strong. ;-)

That's a great final line.

I'm 3/4 of the way through Poe myself, and so far I agree on the lack of duds. Even when the plots and themes don't appeal, the high quality prose and elegant construction have made it hard to outright dislike anything.

Glad you're enjoying it Brendan. Let me know what you think when you finish the book?

thanks Eliani! You too. What are you up to these days? Still on the east coast?

In February, I'll be celebrating a year back in Los Angeles. I moved early this year, and am finding it both familiar and unfamiliar, seeing as I last lived here when I was 18. I like it, though. Writing a bunch lately, and also taking the opportunity to try stand-up comedy the last half of 2008. Are you in town, much? It would be so nice to see you. I'm probably not going to be in Manhattan in the next 12 months, unfortunately. I miss NYC, and all you fine folks.

I don't think I knew that!
Good that you're writing. My friend Donni (you don't know her, she now lives in Orange County, NY) did stand up for about 4 years in the early 80s I think it was. it's a tough gig.

I'm planning on being in Burbank for the Stokers in June.

haha, that's awesome!

I wanted to let you know the anthology arrived today. first or second week of January should see it reviewed (I just started Stars in My Pocket Like Grains of Sand the other day, so I want to get that read before I switch my brain into vampire-mode)
