I'm editing an ALL REPRINT anthology of science fiction, fantasy, and horror cat stories from the past 20 or so years for Night Shade and would love suggestions. John Joseph Adams has graciously set up a spreadsheet for me to use ala what he's been using for his massive reprint anthologies.

Here is the list of the stories I'm thinking of using.

Also, I already have in-hand several cat anthologies so please don't rec anything from them--if you click Cat story spreadsheet you'll see which I've got and a rec form.
The spread sheet is fixed now.

But if you have a problem, let me know here.
Thanks everyone in advance.

Edited to add: NO EMAIL SUBMISSIONS unless requested.

Another edit December 21st: And no replies unless I take something, in which case I will let you know.
I'm not even going to start reading for this until February or March so for now, I'm just putting the incoming stories in a folder.

and happy winter solstice :-)

Does it have to be a pro-level reprint?

I hope you don't mind me responding like this but I don't recall the author offhand. The story was collected in the Year's Best Horror & Fantasy anthology, perhaps 8-10 yrs. ago. It was about a man trapped in a difficult relationship with a bulimic woman, who falls in love with a motorcycle courier, who later turns out to (maybe) be a cat.
I can go thru my books and see if I can find the title and author. One of my volumes was "borrowed" by a student years ago and never returned, however.

Good luck with the antho!

Can the story belong to others of the cat family (i.e. leopards, lions, etc.) or is it exclusively the home cat variety?

"Not Waving" by Michael Marshall Smith. Already on my list.

All types of cats welcome ;-) (you'll see from those I'm already considering)

Ellen, suggestions to your spread sheet are coming in with the date and time instead of the title of the story. I recommended Tappan's "A Most Obedient Cat", from Jane Yolen's Xanadu 2, 1993.

Arghh. The spreadsheet isn't recording titles right now (I"m trying to get John to help fix it) so in the meantime, those, who have recced things on it, please tell me the title here. (I've already filled in Tappan's and Laura Anne's stories but I don't know the titles of the Resnick or Pratt.

Duh. thanks I hadn't scrolled down and over to read the "notes"
thanks--I can't fix the title/time stamp thing myself for some reason. I don't know what the problem is. I hope JJ Adams can fix it for me.

I'm not familiar with that magazine. I assume the story was written by you. If you like you can mail me a copy. Information is on the spreadsheet form.

BTW, added a new story by Jay Lake. Title is "Jack's House" (Strange Horizons link at Notes).

Carol Emshwiller has a great cat story in the latest F&SF.

Never mind. I just looked, and see that even though I remembered it as a cat story, it was really a dog story.

Sigh ...

I don't see how you pet lovers can tell them apart anyway!
