Instead of watching the debate (I'd have to have done so online anyway as my tv doesn't work)--I'm sure I can read as much as I want to about it tonight and tomorrow--I watched the first disk of the 6th season of Monk and the Ben Affleck directorial debut Gone Baby Gone based on a novel by Dennis Lehane.
I should have watched the movie first so that Monk could have cheered me up. Unsurprisingly, Gone Baby Gone covers similar territory to Mystic River-taking place in a depressed area of Boston--but Affleck accounts himself well. The cast, starring Casey Affleck, (Ben's brother), Michelle Monaghan, Amy Ryan (Oscar nominated for her portrayal of a totally scuzzbag whose child is abducted), Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman, and Amy Madigan --also, there was someone who looked familiar and finally I realized he was someone from the cast of Deadwood, Titus Welliver. Anyway, child is abducted and private investigators are brought in by the aunt of the missing child. A lot of twists and turns and an ending, although believable on one level made me totally pissed off at one of the characters (I will not name the one although anyone who has seen the movie will know who I mean--and I don't mean the obvious one).
