After almost a month away from New York, I'll be thankfully flying home tomorrow afternoon. I haven't posted much because first I was traveling in Australia for almost nine days and since flying to Florida (from Australia, through NZ, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia) for my dad's health crisis and subsequent death, I've been with my mom, sister, and brother in law. Today, my sister and brother in law started the drive home to Connecticut. My mom is sleeping (she often has insomnia during the night) and I'm reading, doing some biz on the netbook, and noodling around. We'll be going out to dinner this evening. My mom seems ok and I think she'll be fine alone down here, with lots of friends and neighbors around. I'm sure that we'll all be grieving for my dad on and off all the rest of our lives but our lives will/are going on. I thank everyone who has sent their condolences via email, lj, facebook, and (I'm guessing but won't know till I get home) snail mail.
Once I get back, I have a month's worth of mail to go through-including book packages. I'm afraid I may have trouble getting through my kitchen. I'm hoping the cats will forgive me for being away so long.
I have to start working on some new proposals with possible collaborators and start ramping up my reading for the Best of the Year #3. I've been told the copy edit of Naked City will be coming around October 10th. I've got to catch up sending out reviews/news whatever to contributors of ongoing or recently published anthologies and send out advance checks to contributors for the forthcoming reissue of Snow White, Blood Red.
I know I've been missing great weather in NYC and some not so great weather--tornadoes and thunderstorms yesterday? aighhh).
