4 of the top 18 I've heard of, 3 of 'em I have books by. Obviously, I need more books! ;)

3017 books catalogued, Maybe 1000 or so still to be catalogued, and about 1500 of the "GET THIS BOOK NOW!" list.

I have to talk to the accountant to see if i can write books off as a necessity of life on my taxes... ;)

I write off all books I purchase as a professional expense.

=g= I wish! Unfortunately, I think Revenue Canada might question what relevance stories of wizards, witches, vampires, spies & starships have regarding my income as the tech guru for the company, other than as the final destination for my disposable income.

If you write fiction freelance you can certainly write it off but presumably you have to sell a certain amount of material to prove that you are indeed a freelance writer.

I have to say that my mind is boggled that any of my colleagues can think that Naomi Novik, Scott Westerfeld, John Scalzi, Cory Doctorow, or Elizabeth Bear could be considered "new or little known." Haven't Naomi and Scott made the NY Times Best Seller list?

I like Jack O'Connell as well and quite enjoyed THE RESURRECTIONIST when I read it recently. It follows the same practice of alternating chapters between our reality and a linked imaginary one that you also see in novels like BONES OF THE MOON and TUMBLING AFTER, but it manages to be sufficiently original and has a strong ending.

That book is next after I finish The Yiddish Policeman's Union, which I hope to do on a bus upstate this weekend....I'm not sure anything of his can beat Word Made Flesh, his last.

I liked YIDDISH POLICEMAN'S UNION a lot too. It was quite dark, more so than KAVALIER AND CLAY.

I never had time to read Kavalier and Clay although I've got it.
