I have to say that my mind is boggled that any of my colleagues can think that Naomi Novik, Scott Westerfeld, John Scalzi, Cory Doctorow, or Elizabeth Bear could be considered "new or little known." Haven't Naomi and Scott made the NY Times Best Seller list?

I like Jack O'Connell as well and quite enjoyed THE RESURRECTIONIST when I read it recently. It follows the same practice of alternating chapters between our reality and a linked imaginary one that you also see in novels like BONES OF THE MOON and TUMBLING AFTER, but it manages to be sufficiently original and has a strong ending.
