The Wall Street bailout

I don't know if you're as outraged as I am about the Bush Administration's proposed bailout of the Wall Street debacle by giving a blank check to the assholes who got us into the situation in the first place but if you are, you might want to contact some people in the government here:

NO on their proposed $700 billion handout to Wall Street

I'm not naive enough to think that nothing should be done but I want safeguards, help for the middle class families who have gotten screwed, and strict oversight. It's ironic that the Republicans aka "no government regulation" party keeps wanting to regulate more and more of our lives. Well, duh, this time let them start regulating the banking industry a bit more efficiently.

An interesting piece about what reporters should be asking:

hard questions regarding the financial crisis

Thanks to Jeremy Lassen

And watch this brilliant speech by Rep Marcy Kaptur WallStreet bailout-the rules are
It looks like the Democrat Congress make finally getting some balls. Brava!

Why yes, I too am outraged! I have been putting up stories in my blog all week, but a lot of people don't seem to want to engage the issue. Odd.

Possibly because they don't think anything they say or do will make a damned bit of difference (which, unfortunately is probably true).

[identity profile] sunpony.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Could be. It depends on what people are willing to do in the first place.

Agreed!!!!!!Emphasis on greed. It's destroying this country. Thanks for the link.

I left a voice mail for Harry Reid and that was really difficult for me. I'm really shy about calling politicians or other strangers, even if it's only leaving messages.

[identity profile] sunpony.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent! That is a start!

[identity profile] sarcobatus.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Good for you!

I'm not good on the phone, not a chatty type. But at least it's only voice mail, not a real person!

How schizoid is that? Lol!

[identity profile] ellen-datlow.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm very chatty in real life but not on cold calls --blchh.
You can talk to a real person if you choose to but I certainly wouldn't ;-)

I'm going to send a letter. To everyone I can think of who might be able to put a kibosh on this idiotic bail-out. Haven't they reamed us enough already?

[identity profile] ellen-datlow.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course they haven't ;-)

[identity profile] albogdan.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
What? You don't think the money will just trickle back down through deregulation into the tax payer's pocket? Come on, what's the big deal about an 11 trillion dollar dept anyway? As McCain said, the economy is working as planned, nothing's wrong that ignoring it can't fix.

[identity profile] albogdan.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I realized that while I was being facetious, too many people probably do think this way... so much denial.

Yup.

Just the way They shipped over pallets of billions in U.S. cash to Iraq, which disappeared, to no one knows where, never to be seen again.

The last bits ... They ain't going until they got even the chaff. I.E. PRINTED MONEY.

Love, C.

Yeah, and you have to wonder about the military blitz on the federal reserve a few years ago. Who stopped to question that maneuver? No one. The military just waltzed in and took billions out of our reserve. So who got the money? Where did it go? Neither party has addressed the issue.

Yes, yes I am. Dave and I were watching that on the news last night and going, "WHUT?" I think I also caught a part about making some of these companies into "regular banks"? I'm not entirely sure what I heard there...

All I can say is YES to NO.

Anybody want to take a bet at Martial Law being imposed on November 5th if Obama wins?

[identity profile] ellen-datlow.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Why?
