For a little hippo cheer

This cheered me up immensely. Hopefully it will you, too.

Jessica the pet hippo

Thanks to Nathan Ballingrud and his dad

Oh my god.

Oh my gosh, the hippo in the pink blanket! SOOO cute. Aw.

P.S. Hello! Just got back from the UK Discworld convention and related adventures, so I have been AWOL for awhile. :)

Yes, she's darling :-)

Welcome home. So how was it?

*puts on crazy French accent*

EET WAZZ FANTASTEEC!

I got to spend time with Terry (and a 2 hour interview that I need to transcribe, that will appear online eventually) and meet his PA who is totally fun, and see lots of fun people, and have dinner with Terry and his PA in the countryside after the con. FUN.

Con writeup is coming along. Friday is up on my journal, others pending more tiiiime. :)

I am even more excited now for our con in 2009. You should totally attend. :)

Is it always the same time of the year? I always come to the UK in winter, when the airfares are cheaper.

[identity profile] foresthouse.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, OUR convention is in 2009 in Tempe, Arizona (Sept. 4-7). It's the first North American Discworld Con.

The next UK con is in 2010, and I am not sure when it would be, but probably around the same time.

Aha!

I want a hippo!

[identity profile] ellen-datlow.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Jessica will eventually have baby hippos--put in a request. The only problem is you have to pick the baby up in ...South Africa, I think it is.

Love that hippo video.

[identity profile] ellen-datlow.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't it terrific? A hippo a day can make a bad mood go away.

The summer is over for me and I have to start back to teaching tomorrow, so I needed all the help I could get tonight in the making the bad mood go away department. Thanks to you Nathan and his dad.

Palin has been depressing me since she was announced at McBush's running mate.

[identity profile] 14theditch.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, another fuckin idiot. For all those people who were born too late to live through the 1950's, they've got an opportunity to do so if they vote for the Zombie King and his head mortician. It's depressing that all of these Republicans can go to the convention and talk about how they're going to revive the economy, which they forgot they trashed in the first place. What acollection of dimwits.

[identity profile] ellen-datlow.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
They didn't forget--they just think that WE will.

Good point!

You don't think...nooo....

Freaks me out a little how the people turn their heads to look at the camera as they put their food-filled hands in her mouth.

She is amazing. I love her syncopation as she walks.

It's a sweet video. It's been on Youtube for a while now and my youngest, who turned three last week, became quite the fan. "I want to see Jessica," she would say. She took to watching it on her Mom's iPhone after it came out and we ended up giving her a little hippo doll for the holidays last year. But now she's moved on and is into Totoro.
