I've joined Facebook. I have no idea what I've done or even how it works. Maybe when I have more time I can explore.

They come from your friends, via email and also show up in your notifications.

Facebook (for me) functions best as a sort of daily newspaper of my close friends' activities whenever they update their status. But do beware the games. They are a time-suck.

And if you find yourself having to ignore too many friend requests from strangers, you can also customize your profile's privacy under
settings> privacy settings >search
to make yourself harder to find.
