I'm hommmme -and won the first Shirley Jackson award!!

I had a wonderful, exhausting time at Readercon culminating with the Shirley Jackson awards at which all the winning stories were published by me. Scary but very satisfying.

The best part were the nominee "gifts" everyone was given: a large stone with "Shirley Jackson Awards 2007" printed on it. I will cherish it and promise not to throw it at those who don't like the anthology.

SHORT STORY: "The Monsters of Heaven", Nathan Ballingrud (Inferno, Tor)
COLLECTION: The Imago Sequence, Laird Barron (Night Shade Books)
ANTHOLOGY: Inferno, edited by Ellen Datlow (Tor)
NOVELLA: "Vacancy", Lucias Shepard (Subterranean 7, September 2007)
NOVELETTE: "The Janus Tree", Glen Hirshberg (Inferno, Tor)
NOVEL: Generation Loss, Elizabeth Hand (Small Beer Press)

Congrats! I haven't read Inferno yet, but do plan on picking it up since Laird mentioned it in his LJ and he has a story in it. (And it helps that Monsters of Heaven got a Shirley Jackson award as well :D) Also, I'm assuming from what you said that The Monsters of Heaven was first published in Inferno. Or maybe solely there. Congrats on spotting that one, too.

Thank you for continuing to publish his work. I've only just discovered him due to the Imago sequence. I am incredibly excited about the Lovecraft Unbound anthology, too, and I also need to pick up the Del Ray Science Fiction/Fantasy anthology. (Heh. I have a feeling he'll be throwing a lot of your work my way, though.)

Yup, "Monsters of Heaven" is in Inferno, too but I've also picked it for my Year's Best (coming out in October). Gordon Van Gelder and I do publish a lot of his work. Yup :-) --Maybe most of it.

I'm going to pick up Inferno, and Del Ray. I'm going to try to order in more of Inferno for a display for the Barnes and Noble I work at if I can find enough books to support a Shirley Jackson award themed display. (I've got a couple of your anthologies that I'm eyeing that fit the description, but the list I started is.. not in hand right now.)

Cool. THE DARK is in print in trade pb and won the IHGA a few years ago. Also...A WHISPER OF BLOOD, the reissued double of BLOOD IS NOT ENOUGH and A WHISPER OF BLOOD should be arriving at B&N stories early August. (vampirism and vampires galore)!

I'm supposed to see what I can get ASAP, I think just cause they just hit. Is the Dark the one about Ghosts? I know you had one about Ghosts, and I was thinking that since you won this year :D I'm going to pick up the short story collection with Laird's Probiscus in it as well since that was in his collection if I can get this puppy up soon. (I will check out The Dark; I needed to look up the winners on my own computer and do some research on what I could get by them that was horror related. Then tomorrow, I have to check what our warehouses have.)

Ah. Yes, THE DARK is the ghost story antho from Tor. Oh yes, definitely get Laird's collection if you can THE IMAGO SEQUENCE, which just won the collection award!

I can't! We're totally sold out at our warehouses, and I can't order it into the store from any other sources :( It's the only thing that makes me wince about this display. I'm already trying to spread word about the TPB, hoping that if enough people demand it, it'll get out sooner. (Probably a crazy dream, but I'm so going to reread that to tatters when it comes out. *wants so bad*).

That's too bad! Well if they buy INFERNO they'll get a story by him. And yeah, YBFH # 19 has "Proboscis".
