supporating wounds and me

I couldn't decide whether to blog about this or not but since La Cadigan, who has took me to St Bart's twice has...I'll just cut and paste her report (she's very succinct):

"It was one of those stupid things. Three weeks ago, Ellen fell down some stairs. Not long afer she arrived here, a bruised area above her ankle, just below her shin, suddenly decided to swell up and turn pink. I insisted she go get it looked at, so it was off to the Minor Injuries Unit at St. Bart's. The nurses there decided she'd be OK with ice and elevation.

Ha.

Today we had to take her back and as it turns out, she has a rather inconvenient infection, must gobble two different antibiotics several times a day, can't drink, and must be carried everywhere on luxurious velvet pillows. Or by taxi.

Of course, she always had to be carried everywhere on luxurious velvet pillows but now it's mandatory as opposed to simply by her whim.:)"

So it's cut down on my running around--had to cancel a tour of Scotland Yard (although if the leg's better we may do it on Tuesday afternoon); had to toss out the idea of going to the theater tomorrow night, and forget Chinese New Year's Saturday--no parade for me.
In addition to the antibiotics I'm chomping down ibuprofin. I hope I hope that the antibiotics will start working and that there will be improvement tomorrow. Luckily, it's been localized--no temperature or (much) spreading. This sucks.

Ouch. Hope it gets better soon.

[identity profile] ellen-datlow.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I was assured that 1) I would not lose my leg and 2) not die from it so that's good enough for me :-)

Ouch! Get better!

[identity profile] ellen-datlow.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
thanks :-)

Aside from the worry (that it's not going to get better) and the pain (which 4 ibuprofin seems to be helping) it's the expense--I can only travel by taxi if I go anywhere until it heals a bit.

Well, along with not losing the leg or dying, let's hope it heals quickly and causes little further discomfort.

OH...!

That REALLY sucks! *much healing energy flowing across big pond to you*

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Oh crap! Sorry, Ellen. At least you can sit around and read a lot, yes? :) As long as you don't have the zombie plague, all will be well.

[identity profile] ellen-datlow.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
One can't help but be just a little paranoid about sudden weird infections, considering the poor Brazilian model who died a week ago. What, me paranoid?

[identity profile] ellen-datlow.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks Karen and Eugene.
Well, I did bring a lot along to read. Now I finally have the excuse. Tomorrow it will be sitting, reading, taking it easy. (tonight I'm going to a small dinner party).

[identity profile] pds-lit.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that's a PITA! Your not suppose to get ill when traveling! Feel better soon!

[identity profile] mroctober.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Feel better and don't be guilty about resting.

[identity profile] casacorona.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
So sorry to hear this! I do hope the antibiotics take care of it quickly and you can save some of your holiday.

[identity profile] catephoenix.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Feel better soon.

[identity profile] pwilkinson.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry to hear it. It was good to meet you yesterday, even if we didn't talk much (I was the large man with the beard who was with you in the restaurant after the BSFA meeting and then in the group that walked back to Victoria Station to catch the Tube).

[identity profile] sarcobatus.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
So sorry to hear this has happened to you, Ellen. But it sounds as if you're in good, caring hands. Too bad about having to cancel the tour of Scotland Yard.

[identity profile] adsistla.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Those are two good things :)

[identity profile] realthog.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)

"can't drink"

This must be HELL.

As must all the rest of it. Do take care of yourself, kiddo.

..ow.

[identity profile] mkhobson.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Adding you to my list of people to think good thoughts for. Heal up and get better soon!

[identity profile] krisname.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
feel better, and try and take some acidophilus (sp?) the good stuff, that has to be refrigerated. That way the antiobiotic won't kill off all the good microbes in your body.

(Don't take it at the same time you take the antibiotics, btw)

[identity profile] ogre-san.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Speedy healing!

[identity profile] kylecassidy.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
taxi? screw that, SEDAN CHAIR!!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_stranger_here/ 2009-01-29 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no! I hope the antibiotics work fast, don't screw with your innards too much, and allow you some relatively painless reading time while you're lounging on velvet pillows.

[identity profile] ericmarin.livejournal.com 2009-01-29 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope the infection is ended very soon and that you recover quickly!
